Learn to Read of St. Lucie County is a non-profit corporation established in 1981 when our founder, Dorothy Brennan, read in the newspaper that a woman had given an overdose of medication to her child because she could not read the perscription bottle instructions. Her goal was to improve literacy skills of the residents of our community and that is our goal today.
We provide tutoring that is free, confidential and one-to-one to adults age 16 and older. We use the Laubach Method to teach reading and English. The Laubach Method has been used for over 60 years and is recognized both nationally and internationally. We also use Challenger books, LifePrints, Oxford Picture Dictionaries, Focus on Phonics and other materials. In addition we have a Computer English Lab which uses interactive software to teach reading and English. |

Learn to Read is partially funded by the United Way of St. Lucie County, but most of our financial support comes from individuals and businesses.
